MAP is a collection of composers, performers, and multimedia artists that creates collaborative intermedia performances blending music, movement, images and drama.

MAP was founded in 1986 as an experiment in collaboration. In its first incarnation as an electronic art rock band, MAP performed in San Francisco nightclubs. Gradually, other elements were introduced, including movement, computer controlled slide projections, and lighting. Eventually, with the addition of video and computer graphics, MAP expanded into large-scale performer-interactive visuals and began presenting its work in more theatrical venues.

MAP developed its own interactive computer system in order to allow performers to control the elements of sounds, lights, slides, and computer graphics from the stage. The performers use various controllers including keyboards, drum pads and foot pedals.

MAP was founded by Dale MacDonald and Herb Heinz. Core members have included musical performers Amy X Neuburg, Joel Davel, and Tim Root, video artist Mark Shepherd, and dancer Mark Cooper. Collaborators have included performers Karen Klein and Wingate Greathouse, sculptor Ed Rapin, actress Hali Spiegel, and musicians Bruce Nordman, Mark Briggs, Cary Penwarden, Michael Land, and Connor Dowling.
