A Brief History of Herb
Herb has been playing guitar since he was 5 years old. He started writing songs in junior high school and began experimenting with electronic music in 1979. He received an MFA from the Mills College Center for Contemporary Music in 1987. He has worked extensively in the performing arts as a composer, sound designer, producer, and performer. With Dale MacDonald, Herb began exploring the challenge of collaboration in 1983, which ultimately led to the 1986 founding of MAP. For 9 years Herb provided MAP with concepts, software, guitars, and High Quality Acting. In 1982 Herb met Mark Briggs and began a long collaboration which continues as Hmmm... In the '90s Herb provided whacked-out guitar for the strange and wonderful Amy X Neuburg & Men. These days, Herb composes and produces his own brand of experimental pop, as heard on his solo CD's, Another and Failure. He also plays electronics, guitar and voice with the large improv group dud. | ![]() |
